Site Introduction

Welcome and thank you for visiting our evolving site.

Given the pace of life, information overload, and the daily stress that many face while living in a complex world, I decided to simplify and completely change the feel of this website. The content will continue to be enhanced and updated with valuable information, and I have attempted to make the format easy to view. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

The mission of my work is to help people reclaim control of their personal ‘career power’, make strong and conscious choices about work and career, and to push through all the obstacles to make positive career change happen. Every coaching process is customized to the client’s individual goals and preferred style. We will jointly craft a way of working together effectively. In the meantime, I hope this site offers some useful information.

Within corporate settings, my intention is to help leaders re-engineer their leadership effectiveness. Building respectful and honest work communities is not easy in our fast-paced and multi-generational business environments. The closer every leader can get to providing each individual the opportunity to share talents, skills and ideas in an environment that fosters integrity, teamwork and joint rewards, the more success and fulfillment will be gained for all.

Although this website is focused more on individual coaching work, The Work Strategies Company also offers corporate sponsored executive coaching, management development training programs and team facilitation services. If you would like to discuss corporate programs or executive coaching, please call me and we can set up a time to talk about your needs. You can also go to the Other Services link on this website for more information.

What is Coaching Anyway?

Coaching is a working relationship where the coach uses specific techniques to guide the client in making career and life choices that are meaningful and purposeful. Coaching is goal and action-oriented. Its focus is on the present and the future - not the past. Coaching can help a person alter the way they view the world and themselves. Ultimately this impacts how the client makes decisions. It's about choice and change.

It's Your Choice

Would you like to gain more control over some aspect of your life or work? Have you wanted to achieve certain goals, but seem to be stuck in a rut? Are you asking yourself "is this all there is?" Are you integrating work into your life in a way that suits your values? Do you simply want more time for yourself and/or your family but can't seem to find it?
Whether you are a corporate manager working 70 hours a week and getting little personal satisfaction from your work, someone who is ready for a change but doesn't know where to start, or someone who is just tired of feeling burnt out, you have some very important choices to make.
You can be the master of your fate, and make conscious decisions about the life you want to create. You have the power to change your life. It's never too late. On the other hand, you can also choose to be a victim, a puppet or a procrastinator forever. It's your choice.
If you want to make conscious decisions, a coach can help you design a new way of working and living. A coach gives you objective and honest feedback that others may not have the courage to give you, and coaches can help you anticipate obstacles and overcome them. Coaches provide tools for change and encouragement to take positive action to build the life and work you want.

The Coach's Role

The role of coach is multi-dimensional. It is our job to listen very carefully, hearing underneath the symptoms, and to help you identify core issues and build a plan based upon the context of your unique life, personality, values and talents. We ask a lot of questions; sometimes tough questions. We might question your assumptions and push back sometimes. We will make agreements about specific actions that you will make to begin the process of change. We believe in balancing the pursuit of dreams with practical choices to achieve your own definition of success. We encourage you to hold yourself accountable.

The Client's Role

Your role is to be open to feedback, fully participate in the entire process, and be accountable for the agreements you make. Ultimately it isn't the coach who makes the process successful - it is fundamentally the responsibility of the client to implement the action plan and move forward in his or her own life. We give the client tools, input, suggestions and advice. The client makes change happen.
